Johnny Hickman to Join The Hickmen at Gramfest 2004
September 07, 2004

Johnny Hickman will join The Hickmen at this year’s Gramfest, an annual tribute to singer/songwriter Gram Parsons. The Gramfest will once more be hosted by the Hi Desert Playhouse in Joshua Tree, California. San Bernardino County Blues will definitely be in the set.

Last year’s event saw the birth of the modern Hickmen. Labor pains began in the shade of a dumpster in the parking lot (The Hickmen’s rehearsal hall…) and by the end of the set the audience—as well as the band—knew they were on to something. Expect even greater fireworks this year. The show will start with two new songs of Johnny’s performed acoustically. The Hickmen will then take the stage. After few numbers Johnny will return for some songs from California Dreamin’ and some songs from Johnny’s new, as-yet-untitled, solo record. Look for the festivities to start around 5 pm. More information may be found—or may not—at gramfest.com.

In other news, the October line-up for Highland Grounds is shaping up. It’s Thursday, October 21st. Marta Atwell and her great band Cactus Automatic will start things off. Paul Inman’s Delivery will be on the bill. DJ Joe Manahan may also mix some tunes between sets. We may give an update here before the show, we may not.

Meanwhile, did you buy one of those tote-bags yet?
