Johnny Hickman braved the drive west into the belly of the beast last week to record several tracks with his boot-licking lackeys, The Hickmen. Temporarily ditching his security staff, the superstar holed up in a Silver Lake basement for several hours worth of high-volume additions to songs the like of “Hills of California.” Displaying some of the warmth and charm that have endeared him to so many for so long, he often referred to his friends of two decades by their first names, eschewing his typical “Hey, you…” By the wee hours of the morning officials from the Homeland Security Agency had whisked the national icon to a secure and undisclosed location, but not before some killer fretwork had been committed to hardrive. Look for the fruits of his labor on the upcoming Hickmen CD.
