The Hickmen Plan Two December Gigs December 03, 2004
After a rousing evening on November 18 spent with Johnny Hickman, both solo and backed
up by The Hickmen, The Hickmen are planning two December gigs, one back at Highland Grounds and one
at one of their old Inland Empire haunts, the Black Watch pub.
The November Highland Grounds show was pretty special for The Hickmen. Two friends
from back in the day—Beth and Erika—knew almost to the day when the last time John Arthur Hickman
and the members of The Hickmen had played music together on stage: the summer of 1986! Things like
mangled chord progressions, botched vocals, and missed rehearsals were no match for the sheer joy
everyone felt at getting to make music together again. There’s talk of another show like this in
January. We’ll keep you posted.
In the meantime, here’s what’s up: in the same time-warp vein as the Johnny show, The
Hickmen will play with their long-time friends and old stagemates Desperation Squad at the Black
Watch pub in Upland on Saturday, December 11th. Finn regularly proclaims Desperation Squad the Best
Band on Earth. On the 11th The Hickmen will have the Biggest Balls on Earth as they will follow D
Squad on stage, going on at about 10:30. Rumors that Jones will use the rest of Mr. P’s chocolate
syrup are just lies, damned lies. Tim will handle that chore…
Then, just in time for a little respite from the growing sense of Holiday Dread, the
Highland Grounds show is all set for Thursday, December 16th. The line-up will include Garrick
Stoner, who has contributed some great sets at Highland Grounds and will have his band with him, and
Tree Adams, a group of red-hot players who really burned things up back at the Grounds a few months
ago. If Jim Hutchins isn’t in the crowd we’re putting his phone number in here next month so that
all you folks can prank call him.
And hey, speaking of Holiday Dread, we have some stress relief for all of you. Why
not handle your holiday shopping right here from this website? Music, fine apparel, tote bags, who
could ask for anything more?
Or you could hit say, Costco, for their fine shopping experience.
